This is natural for ballerinas unlike the other dance styles which are more relaxed and free.  This style of dance is strictly follwed by techniques, exams and syllabus work . This is definately not for the faint hearted!!

Jazz

Jazz has evolved from other dance styles including ballet. You will find that terminology will cross over for certain dance steps. However the feeling and appearance is very different.

One thing that differentiates the two styles is that jazz  movements are more grounded and the leg and feet work in parallel, where are ballet is more upright and positioned. The basis for jazz music and dance concentrates on rhythm, syncopation and style, making it dynamical and theatrical to watch.
